About the festival
The Mayor’s Thames Festival is a spectacular, free celebration of London and its river. Taking place over the middle weekend in September between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge, the festival brings Londoners together in the very heart of the capital to dance, make sculptures, listen to music, watch movies, drink, eat, enjoy performances, sing, play on the beach, sail on the Thames and party in the streets.
Essentially, we want to provide a celebration for London and its river, a city centre party if you like, one that is free and open to all. We want to close roads and bridges and transform them with culture. We want to educate and transform people’s ideas about the river, too. Most of all, we want people not just to be spectators, but to be active participants in this spectacular London event.

Everybody’s welcome! It’s a sociable event so come with friends or meet people on the day, and there’ll be free entertainment at the main event village. And while the walk is only 10km, the difference made will go so much further – dramatically improving the lives of people affected by HIV and AIDS in the UK and internationally.
Over 2100 people joined us for the walk last year, raising a fantastic £325,000. We want to make it bigger and better this year, raising more money and offering help and hope to even more people but we can only do this with your help. Please register today.

Join the Hampton Court team on the Mothers Day weekend for their annual celebration of flowers. Created by members of the Surrey branch of NAFAS, the displays this year will be inspired by the Tudor period. This year, for the first time, the Tudor State Apartments and Cloisters will be displayed with a riot of colour and scent using flowers and plants of the period. The gorgeous floral displays on show at Florimania at Hampton Court are inspired by the flowers and plants popular in the Tudor period. Keep an eye out to see if modern favourites such as lilies, roses, stocks, sunflowers and tulips form part of the displays, alongside exotic plants from around the world. And as this is the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII’s ascension to the throne, for the first time the Florimania at Hampton Court exhibition will take place in the Tudor State Apartments and the Cloisters in honour of Bluff King Hal.
